Ulysses S. Grant was the 18th president of the United States, and the general-in-chief of the Union Army during the civil war. He led the victories of many important battles such as battles of the Wilderness, Spotsylvania, Cold Harbor, Gettysburg, the siege of Petersburg, and many other battles. He was well known after the Civil war and was named Secretary of War and later ran for president.
