The battle of Antietam was the first major battle of the American Civil War. It was called the single bloodiest day of the Civil War because if the carnage of the battle. The union general was George B McClellan who oposed Robert E. LEE. The battle resulted from the south attempting to invade the north but they were me with resistance. The battle ended with a draw when both sides were forced to retreat after the bloody battle.
