The battle OF bull run
The Battle of Bull Run was the first battle of the Civil War. The battle took place in Bull Run Virginia on July 21, 1861 between the Confederate and Union army. The commanding officer for the Union army was Irvin McDowell and on the opposing side it was none other than the legendary General Robert E. LEE. The battle ended with a Confederate victory. The North lost 2,896 men: 460 killed (16%), 1,124 wounded (39%) and 1,312 held prisoner. The South lost 1,982 men: 387 killed (19.5%), 1,582 wounded (80.5%) and 13 missing.
